loclit

manifesto

(you probably don't want to read this. that's fine — the pictures are the point, and they're one click back.)

i've been losing touch with one of the things that feeds my soul (awesoul? soulawe? i never did settle that). i've loved residential design almost my entire life — loved feeling spaces, loved examining the details. for years the magazines fed that: big pages you could fall into, the best work in the world, details you could actually study.

then the magazines died, and everything worth seeing collapsed onto tiny screens with tiny images. wiser people than me have said god is in the details, and the details were vanishing — leaving an empty space where a soul-feeding thing used to be. even with reading glasses on i couldn't get there anymore. i couldn't fill my head with wonder and awe — wonawe — and imagine my way to sleep at night. i couldn't feel how it feels to be there. life was losing something.

so i built this.

loclit is a company of 10% of one person, built on whatever energy is left after a full day of… status reports. (anyone want to buy a status report? didn't think so. that's the entire market for status reports.) i've always been a little out there — it often takes inebriation to appreciate where i'm coming from — and this thing gets the whole me, for better or worse.

the idea is to take the current best practices and flip them on their head:

the whole point, in two words:

and past seeing: feel how it feels to be there. that's the bar every page has to clear.

no promises. i don't know what the future holds — most likely nobody ever notices this and it stays a hobby. that's fine. it feeds the soul either way, and that's what it was built to do.

last thing, the one that matters: everything you see here is a creator's work, not mine — i just made it bigger. every image links back to the firm that made it, and if any creator wants their work gone or credited differently, one message — the contact address is going up on the privacy page — and it comes down the same day.
